California Mexíca Dancers

We are Macehualiztli, Mit’totiliztli (dancers of tradition) more modernly known as “Aztec Dancers’. Our dances are an extension of traditional Toltec/ Otomi cultures from the Northern part of central Mexico and the Mexica culture from Tenochtitlan in Central Mexico. Our traditional indigenous dances and songs have been in existence for melania. These dances interpret our history and our spiritual connection to nature, the universe and everything in existence that is vital to life. Our dances include a rich blend of pre-colombian traditional percussion and woodwind instruments. Our regalias’ can be colorful or made from animal hides carrying sacred geometrical symbols and energies also known as “deities”. Our feathers represent the solar rays and our connection to the cosmic world. It has been through the perseverance of our ancestors that we have been able to maintain many of our sacred ways alive throughout the centuries. As heirs of these traditions we work diligently and collectively to preserve, share and pass along these beautiful traditions to the next generation and we are excited to share this with you.
Tloque Nahuaque, to all our relations near and far.
May our Father Sun “Tonatiuh” continue to shine on you and may we continue to love and care for our beautiful Turtle Island, Mother Earth “Tonanzin” Danza Collective in partnership with the Indigenous Wellness Collective (IWC)
