Joe Kye is an award-winning violinist-looper and leader of the original music project, Joseph in the Well. Wielding his violin, lush string loops, and voice, Joe’s sound has been influenced by artists like Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, and Miles Davis.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Joe immigrated with his family to the United States at the age of six. After spending the first two years of his American life in Boston, his family ultimately settled in Seattle, WA. After receiving his B.A. in American Studies from Yale University, Joe taught high school English for a few years before pursuing his dreams of becoming a professional musician.
Indicative of his migrant upbringing, Joe draws from multiple genres, including rock, jazz, classical, and world music. Joe seeks to unite, empower, and cultivate the inner child through tales and songs of immigration and identity.
In March, Joe will embark on his #NewWorldTour, with a slate of performances on the East Coast. In May, Joe will open for Yo-Yo Ma at the Mondavi Arts Center in Davis. Along with his tour schedule, Joe teaches 2nd grade and 6th grade music at William Land Elementary School in Sacramento.
